Heat Wave
It was HOT yesterday. Like, almost seventy five degrees!
I know. But we're acclimated now, and temperatures in the seventies feel hot to us. I set the kids up with a tub of water and some plastic fish, and they had a good ol' time. They sat in it, used their hats to scoop it, poured it from bucket to bottle to fishy mouth, and made a super soggy spot in the lawn. Meanwhile I stacked concrete blocks at the back of what will someday (someday!) be a raised planting bed. I put plenty of sunscreen on the children. I sunburned my upper back.
Tucson family, the temperatures I see on your forecast are appalling. Be safe!
Everyone, please tell us where you are and what your high temp was yesterday.

Teddy Bears Have Ears
Zoe makes some very specific and sometimes elaborate hairdo requests. I accommodate when I can. Because her hair is straight and silky fine, the ears will likely fall down before an hour is out. But she's happy for now.

Good Kitty
This smile (and fancy ensemble) was in honor of Zoe's first teeth cleaning. She was excited to go, did great while she was there, and finished up just as happy as she started.

Cutting Edge
Left handed, scissors upside down.
Right handed and right side up.
Either way, he's getting the hang of it. Vincent is more experimental with the scissors than Zoe has ever been. He's curious how they might work on his fingers, shirt, table, etc. All the scissors live in a box on top of the fridge and only come down to play when I have free time and some patience to spare.

Too Much Fun
When our kids fall asleep on the sofa in the middle of the day, we worry. It's so unlike them.
Zoe zonked out for three hours on Sunday afternoon. David eventually got untangled and left her to sleep on her own. She seemed fine on Monday. In retrospect, she was probably just worn out from sun and fun and pollen exposure after spending most of Saturday outside. Our family has been mighty snotty this summer.

Stats
Upside of a birthday: boxes containing percussion instruments (several of them!) addressed to you.
Downside of a birthday: doctor visit.
Vincent had his two year old well child check up today. He is old enough now that he understood where we were going and was able to express apprehension. It was less traumatic than it might have been. Strangers, very kind ones, did talk to him and touch him, but Vincent escaped the needle...for now. He'll go in a few weeks for vaccinations, hopefully by which time he'll be over his head cold. As Zoe informed the doctor, "Vincent is snotting a lot."
Heigh 36 1/2 inches, 93rd percentile.
Weight 30 pounds 4 ounces, 76th percentile.
Body mass index 32nd percentile.
Other than the snot, Vincent is a healthy boy who is hitting all the developmental milestones. Hooray!

Zoeisms
Zoe has no personal experience with long underwear, but she has a book about a boy dressing to play outside in the snow. She asked David "Daddy, did you ever wear hot pants?"
David is feeling a little under the weather today, and he was resting on the sofa. Zoe sat on top of him and played percussion instruments in order "...to help him fall asleep."
Zoe fixed up her brother with the contents of the bow basket, then directed him to the mirror. "Vincent, your hair looks fantastic!"

Zoe was thinking up names for chickens she plans to have someday. "Bucken, Cucken, Ducken, and....Quack." Whew. The "_ucken" naming trend might have caused some raised eyebrows when it was time to call the chickens in to roost.
